A beginner, without those shortcuts, is forced to actually look, which is why fresh eyes so often catch what experienced ones miss.

Borrow the Beginner's Eye

• Before analysing a familiar problem, describe it as if explaining it to someone who's never seen it.
• Ask 'why do we do it this way?' about one thing you've stopped questioning.
• Invite a genuine newcomer's opinion, and actually consider it before defending the status quo.

Curiosity Outlasts Competence
