It's tempting to keep refining an idea in your head until it feels ready to show someone. But an idea that's never been tested against reality isn't actually finished — it's just untested. A rough, embarrassing prototype teaches you more in a day than another week of private refinement.
Build the Rough Version
- Give your idea a version you could show someone within 24 hours, however unfinished.
- Ask one honest person what's actually confusing or wrong with it.
- Treat the first version as a question, not an answer — its job is to teach you something, not impress anyone.

The goal of a first prototype was never to be good. It was to find out what you couldn't have known until it existed.
